Althought Siberut is only a small island, the internal variations in languange,culture,life styles,and resources is rather substantial. There is no clear indication of when the first man arrived on Siberut., but anthropologist suggest that the bataks of North Sumatra first settled on the island several thousand years ago. In many ways, the people of Siberut are among the most archaic people in Indonesia.
